The Cyclone Nargis which struck Myanmar (Burma) on 02 and 03 May 2008, left more than 100,000 people dead or missing, and more than two million have had their lives disrupted. It wiped out many towns and villages and destroyed power lines.
In delta region, almost 95% of homes were destroyed, and many homes left without roofs in the main city, Yangon (formerly Rangoon) itself.
To provide the necessary support to cyclone victims including the children who had lost their parents long-term, the Panditarama Sydney Meditation Centre Inc. formed the committee, Panditarama Committee for Myanmar Cyclone Nargis Relief Fund, to collect funds and work closely with reliable local links to provide effective liaison and coordination of response and recovery services to those affected by the disaster.
